Guardian Home Program

To be considered a guardian you have to live within approximately 1 hour from Ossian, Indiana. If you live further and are still interested, just contact us to see if we can make it work.

Sharice’s Cavapoos is looking for guardian/foster parents to be part of the guardian program. A guardian parent takes responsibility for a female dog who will be bred when she is of age. Her guardian family will raise her and love her as their own and she will be yours to keep after her breeding days are over. In exchange for fostering a dog, there is no charge.

Our dogs are family, first and foremost, and hope to provide others with dogs of their own to obtain the same happiness we experience with our pets. We want to find families that will love and spoil them to give them a great life. We also encourage you to take her out with you and include her in your eveyday activities.

The details of fostering are as such. You are given a top-quality dog from our first pick of a litter, which will come at no cost to you. Instead of paying over $2,500-$4,500 for a dog, it is free through our guardian program.

You will receive her as a puppy, and once she becomes of age for having puppies she will have up to 4 litters. When her heat cycle comes she will be brought back to us to be bred. She will then come back to you until she is due to have puppies. Once she is due to have puppies she will stay with us for 5-7 weeks until the puppies no longer need their mother. You will not be responsible for anything related to expenses for mom due to having puppies. You will be allowed to come and visit and play with her puppies which makes it a fun experience for you! :)

In the event the fostered dog would die due to untreated illness, neglect, unforeseen accident, or lost/stolen prior to contract fulfillment, the foster owner will compensate the breeder for a replacement dog. Replacement dogs range from $2,000-$3,500. With the exception that the price will not superceed the cost of the origional dog given to the guardian home. If at anytime the guardian home cannot care for the dog, it must be returned to the breeder in good health and up-to-date on shots.

If the dog were to die due to something beyond the control of the guardian home, then the guardian home will not be held responsible for paying the expense for a replacement dog.

Each dog is genetically tested. This identifies common genetic issues found in the breed. If a dog tests positive for genetic disease, she would be returned to the original breeder to fullfill the health guarantee and you would receive a replacement puppy instead. Said dog will also complete additional health testing when they are of age. Most testing is done after they are 1 year old. If the health testing is not passed then the dog will also not be bred. At this point you would be offered to keep the dog for free.

Vaccines will be the responsibly of the guardian home with the exception of an annual parvo vaccine. This can be provided for free through us if chosen to do so. Guardian home will also be responsible for taking dog to the vet and keeping them up to date on shots along with caring and feeding the dog as their own. Once her breeding days are over, you will also be responsible for spaying her.

Not very often will we have a male dog available for a guardian home. If we currently have one available then some things will be different. Said male dog will not retire until later in life. Females normally will retire around age 4 or 5. When a female is in heat the male dog needs to be braught to our home for around 1 week. Unless you want to make the drive every other day for 1 week. All same criteria still applies to a male as the females. Still care for him as your own. He will get testing once he is of age just like the females. Once it is time for him to retire he will be neutered.

If you are interested in becoming a guardian for one of our dogs please fill out the application form below. Also please read through the guardian contract to see if becoming a loving foster family is for you. Please note that these dogs we keep back for our program are top quality. If you think that you may get to the point that you do not want your dog to have puppies then please apply for a pet puppy rather than one from our guardian home.
